Eating in Alicante isn't hard if you're not picky — every place will bring you salads, tostadas, and the usual staples. But if you're after a restaurant that's actually worth the visit, choosing one takes more thought.

Like any popular tourist city, Alicante restaurants are everywhere — Spanish, Italian, Japanese, and everything in between, often a dozen in a row on a single street. For first-time visitors, sorting through that on your own is close to impossible, especially without a steer from a trusted food guide. It gets even harder with an unfamiliar dish — judging a paella, for example, isn't easy on your first try.

A lot of what's on offer is built for tourist volume, not quality — high turnover, low effort, and a kitchen that rarely holds up under scrutiny. The same dish can be made from what's sold at any supermarket, or from genuinely selected ingredients that cost several times more — shrimp and langoustines are a good example, and the same goes for the meat on offer. The name on the menu can be identical either way.

Finding a good restaurant in Alicante means looking past location and menu photos, and paying attention to what actually matters: the food itself, the service, and the atmosphere — what separates a place worth remembering from one you just walk into off the street.
