Not what most people expect from a city park.
Parque La Marjal was originally built as a flood-control reservoir — which explains why it looks nothing like a typical urban green space.
The centrepiece is a large lake surrounded by reeds and aquatic plants. Wooden bridges and gravel paths wind around the water. Ducks, herons, turtles, and dragonflies are regular residents — not occasional sightings. On a quiet morning it genuinely feels removed from the city despite being a 5-minute walk from
Playa de San Juan beach.
- Wide open lawns sit alongside shaded rest areas. The whole design is flat and unhurried — the kind of place where you arrive for 30 minutes and stay for two hours.
