Alicante Compass

El Palmeral Park, Alicante Hundreds of palms, a boat pond, and shade when the city gets too hot. Free entry, always.

"El Palmeral is one of the best free family destinations in Alicante — not because of a single attraction, but because of how well it holds a child's attention across a full morning or afternoon. The wooden boat pond, shaded playgrounds, open grass areas, and outdoor fitness equipment mean that different ages find different things to enjoy, often at the same time.
For families specifically: The playground equipment is well-maintained and set under palm canopy — meaning shade even at midday, which matters significantly during Alicante summers. The flat, wide paths are pushchair and wheelchair friendly throughout.
Parking — the honest version: The car park on Avenida de Elche fills quickly on weekend mornings from around 10:30 AM onwards. If you arrive after that, head to the side streets on Calle Reyes Católicos — free street parking is usually available within a 5-minute walk. Alternatively, the TRAM stops within comfortable walking distance.
What to bring: Water is the only essential — there are drinking fountains throughout the park. A picnic is genuinely worthwhile here; the shaded tables near the palm grove are one of the nicest free lunch spots in the city. If you forget anything, a small kiosk near the main entrance sells drinks, ice cream, and basic supplies."

Hi, I’m Petro, the face behind Alicante Compass.

This guide is free and always will be. Running it takes time, fuel, and a lot of coffee — researching places that don't show up on Google Maps, verifying details that other sites get wrong, and writing guides I'd actually want to read myself. If Alicante Compass has saved you time, money, or given you one moment worth remembering — I'd be grateful for your support. Every contribution keeps me on the road and the content free for everyone.
